Kepter Privacy Policy

The short version

Your files stay on your Mac. Kepter reads them where they already live, on your device, and never uploads them.

Your files never leave your Mac

Kepter reads the files in the folders you choose, in place, on your Mac. It never moves, copies, or uploads your files or their contents. When you delete something in Kepter, it moves the real file to the macOS Trash, where you can recover it.

Reading happens on your device

Understanding what a file is, so you can find it in your own words, happens entirely on your Mac using Apple's built-in frameworks (Vision for text and images, and Apple's on-device models on macOS 26). Your file contents are not sent to us or to any third party to be read.

What Kepter stores, and where

To find things quickly, Kepter keeps a private index of what it learned about your files, along with small thumbnails and a path back to each original file. This lives on your Mac in an encrypted store. The encryption key is held in your macOS Keychain. No copies of your files are kept. The short version is in What Kepter stores on your Mac.

There is no account

Kepter has no sign-in and no account. You download it, point it at a folder, and it works. There is nothing to log into, no password, and no profile of you anywhere.

We do not sell your data, and we never will. There is remarkably little of it to sell.

Pricing and payments

Kepter is free for 30 days, then paid. Payments are handled by a dedicated payment processor, not by Kepter; your card never touches Kepter’s own systems.
