Install Kepter

Kepter arrives as a small file called Kepter.dmg. Here is the whole install:

1. Open Kepter.dmg from your Downloads folder. A window opens with the Kepter icon and an Applications folder.
2. Drag the Kepter icon onto Applications. That copies the app to your Mac.
3. Open your Applications folder and double-click Kepter.

Kepter is notarized by Apple, which means Apple has checked the app, so it opens like any other Mac app. If you see a message instead, read “Kepter can’t be opened”.

After installing you can drag the Kepter.dmg file from Downloads to the Trash. It was only the delivery box.

If Check for Updates says Kepter can’t be updated

In Kepter 1.3.2 and earlier, a copy opened straight from the disk image or from the place it was downloaded to can’t update itself. Check for Updates says one of these:

• “Kepter can’t be updated because it was opened from a read-only or a temporary location. Use Finder to copy Kepter to the Applications folder, relaunch it from there, and try again.”
• “Kepter can’t be updated if it’s running from the location it was downloaded to. Quit Kepter, move it into your Applications folder, relaunch it from there and try again.”

To fix it:

1. Quit Kepter, then download it again from kepter.app.
2. Open Kepter.dmg.
3. Drag the Kepter icon onto Applications. If Finder asks, choose Replace.
4. Open Kepter from your Applications folder.

From Kepter 1.3.3 on, Kepter asks “Move Kepter to your Applications folder?” when you open it from either place.
