What Kepter stores on your Mac

To find things fast, Kepter keeps a private index on your Mac. For each file it remembers three things:

1. What it learned about the file, so you can search in your own words.
2. A small thumbnail, so the library can show the file at a glance.
3. The path back to the original, so opening a tile opens your real file.

That is the whole list. No copies of your files are kept.

The index lives in an encrypted store on your Mac, inside your Library folder at ~/Library/Application Support/Kepter. The key that unlocks it is held in your macOS Keychain, protected the same way your passwords are.

The reading itself happens on your Mac too, using Apple’s built-in frameworks. Your file contents are not sent to us or to anyone else. The longer version is in the privacy policy.
