What happens when you quit, pause, or uninstall

Checked against macOS 26 · August 2026

Short version: your files are never affected by any of these. Here is what each one does.

Pause stops the reading without touching a file.

Pause

Pausing stops Kepter from reading new files for a while. Do it from the K in the menu bar or in Settings → Folders, for an hour, eight hours, or until you resume. The library you already have keeps working.

Quit

Choose Quit Kepter from the menu bar K. The tab disappears and nothing runs until you open Kepter again. Your library waits unchanged.

Uninstall

  1. Quit Kepter.
  2. Drag Kepter from your Applications folder to the Trash.
  3. Optional: Kepter’s index stays at ~/Library/Application Support/Kepter. Delete that folder too if you want every trace gone.

Either way, every file in every folder stays exactly where it always was.
