Kepter and your battery

Checked against macOS 26 · August 2026

Kepter reads on battery. You do not need to be plugged in for your library to grow.

Reading pauses on demand, one hour or eight, from Settings.

It stays considerate three ways:

  1. Idle first. Reading happens when you are not using the Mac, and backs off the moment you are.
  2. Heat aware. If the Mac gets critically hot, reading pauses until it cools.
  3. Pausable. Long flight, big presentation: pause reading for an hour, eight hours, or until you resume, from the menu bar or Settings.

Day to day, once the first big read is done, Kepter only reads the new things you save, which is light work. If you ever see Kepter high in Activity Monitor while you are actively using your Mac, that is not how it should behave. Tell us.
